Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area located in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that there is a separate island in the west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. Then, a growth increase caused her to surpass her dance partners she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts and gave up, I decided to give up. A lot of former dancers go on to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher that encouraged her to go in that direction. She was encouraged to take part in an audition in the school's production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead in Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on the large and small screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the acclaimed television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor in the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
